Create a Healthy Sacred Space at Home
Hello Friends,
My children have this really dope cosmic nesting box which shows how we exist within a multi-layered environment. The smallest box is the energy or ‘essence’ of the child, it expands moving to the body, school/home, city, and so on. We all live in a nested environment, and an awareness of our placement and how our essence influences our surroundings is very important.
I love to experience and create spaces that engender calm, joy, curiosity, and ones that evoke a certain nostalgia of a warm time remembered. My favorite place to be is home. Home means so much to me - it’s where I spend time with myself, my family and loved ones.
The environmental domain is best described as the consciousness you bring to each space you occupy; an awareness of your relationship with whom and what you share the space, and an understanding of the purpose of the space with; an appreciation for what the environment is intended to do.
For many of us, this domain is sometimes overlooked and taken for granted. We don’t often consciously engage the places we occupy, and are less concerned about the ease and the flow that is there for us to experience when we are intentionally inhabiting the spaces we’ve been gifted.
Now more than ever, our homes have become a hybrid of living, working and learning spaces. We are being nudged to think about how to designate specific areas that will facilitate increased functionality while considering aesthetics. We are presented with this opportunity to reflect on what wellness in this sphere looks like for us.
Wellness in the environmental domain is an active curation of form and function.
Should you decide that there is room for growth in this area, here are some questions to ask yourself:
what emotions surface when in this space?
is the space serving me well?
does this environment make me feel hopeful or dream about the future?
are the items I own useful?
is there room for my thoughts to flow freely?
am I proud of my surroundings?
am I using this space for its intended purpose?
am I creating good memories?
what does this place mean to me?
how do I want this space to feel?
do I bring an energy to the environment that is conducive to healthy relationships?
do my practices honor creation?
have I embraced that natural disaster is a part of life?
where is my sacred space?
I know you thought we were going to talk about décor, but in true Yanique form we are here to #dothework. Spaces can be quite personal, and while there are some design ideas and practical ways that we can make them enjoyable, I thought I could best serve you by having you reflect on the questions above and determine for yourselves, the changes you would like to make. I will soon share with you some of the ways I prepare my environment specifically for the winter time. More to come :)
Based on what you have discovered, what will you do differently?
